"Born in a small workshop in Bucharest, Wild Inga is an up-and- coming  chic  line  of  bags and accessories. A story about style, elegance and quality, Wild Inga is the eclectic symbol of “THE WILD WOMEN IN LOVE” - the brainchild of the concept of the label’s creator, Mihaela T. In this interview with EGO, get to know the  brand’s leading woman as she talks about the wild things, bags and Alice in Wonderland.

What is Wild Inga?

The Wild Inga story started as a simple business at first, but it quickly became my greatest passion, my  second thought  in the morning – the first would be my little daughter. For  a long time,  I  was advised by two friends; being in their workshop day by day for more than a year, I tried to learn as much as I could - from traditional crafts- manship to modern techniques. When I went to a tannery in Tuscany, Italy for the first time, I understood that Wild Inga was more than a business. The smell of leather, the feeling I had when I touched it... I could say I felt like I’m Alice in Wonderland. But nothing  compares with the feeling of creation. I like to create things. My greatest pleasure is transforming my ideas into reality.

Can you share with us your journey into the world of fashion?

I’ve had a passion for fashion for as long as I can probably remember. I used to draw sketches all the time, and most of the time, I took it very seriously. I’ve always been told by people who know me, from my friends to my employees that I have a critical personality, so all I can say it’s just that our journey just beginning. Nothing  great can  be  achieved without taking  risks, without  working  hard,  or without  a constant desire for perfection. Wild Inga is my first step into the fashion world – I’m  hoping it’ll  be an important step, which will make a difference in now- adays’ trends.

What role do you think bags play in the world of fashion?

There was a time when the fashion industry was limited to appearances only. Accessories were used just add-ons; no one paid much attention to them, at least from the manufacturing point of view. Along with the evolution of the fashion industry, people started to think not only about their appearances, but as well as accessories. Nowadays, fashion is from head to toe: it is not only about clothing anymore, it’s everything that you carry. Clothes, accessories, footwear, jewellery and handbags are a major part of today’s fashion industry.

What are the characteristics a “good” bag must have?

The   most   important   characteris- tic a “good” bag must have is quality. That’s why our bags are made only from natural leather, and 90% of them  are made exclusively  from leather, even on the inside. Equally important  are the fine details,  which  is  why  our  bags are handmade and it could take up to 72  hours  to  create one.  We  paint them  by hand;  we cut  the  leather and sew some parts of the bags by hand as well. This always makes the difference.

Does  your personality ref lect in your designs? In what ways?

I tried to create  bags  for every woman , so there are bags that  don’t entirely ref lect my   personality, but I can’t really create something I wouldn’t wear myself.  I’m a fan of the  minimalist style, but  I  had  to somewhat adapt as well. Can you share with us the inspiration behind your latest collection? My two year old daughter, Ingrid, is my everyday inspiration. This collection is also inspired by her pure and colourful  personality. I’m  inspired by her freedom as she plays and her sweet little smiles.

 

What is your fashion and design philosophy?

The philosophy which I am always led by is “Details make the differ- ence” and “Would I wear this?” Which is also why I always wear my own products, I am my own brand ambassador.

Who is the woman who owns one of your stylish creations?

The WILD INGA woman is a woman made of f lesh and bone, of fears and  anxieties, but  also of dreams, hopes and  a very particular vision of fashion. She loves to be admired not only for her beauty but especially for her elegance. The wild woman is particularly important in the process of transforming the world due to her broader vision and strong sense of direction. She is the strongest among all women. A fierce, powerful war- rior. She is, however, a warrior of love and her expression is colourful, crea- tive and passionate.

 

Where do you stand on trends?

I am always studying new trends from my favourite designers be- cause one thing that keeps the fashion world interesting is the ever-revolving door of trends. I have always studied the big names in fashion, the best designers around the world, and I try to align myself with the trends, but not too much. Because the perfect bag for me is one that is timeless in terms of design, something that Audrey Hepburn could’ve worn 50 years ago, but I can take out later to a cocktail party with contemporary accessories.

 

If you could design a bag for anyone, who would it be? How do you see this bag turning out?

 

I admire strong women, so I would like to create for Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey or HH Sheikha Mozah, my fashion icon. But if I were to design a special bag, it would be for Carrie Bradshaw as portrayed by SJP, she changed the game of fashion and most certainly she would be able to put Wild Inga on the fashion map.

 

What would be your most memorable moment since you’ve launched the brand?

The most important  moment for me since the creation of Wild Inga, was the moment my first happy client saw her bag. I couldn’t believe my product was that desired. I will never forget that feeling.

 

Whats to come for you and your brand?

We are only just beginning but we have big dreams. We are planning to expand our online market not just in Europe, but inter-nationally, and in the future, a showroom in Bucharest for made- to-measure bags."
